Since joining SPSS in 2004 I have steadily moved up the ranks of responsibility.
In 2004, as a Product Marketing Manager, I was responsible for the SPSS products
that focused on Computer Aided Interviewing (CAI), in 2005 I was promoted to look
after the entire Survey Creation and Reporting Suite called Dimensions. In 2006
I was promoted again to Director of Product Strategy.
My team and I manage a 14 products with a multi-million dollar
revenue stream. My team is based in Woking (Surrey) and Chicago (Illinois). Our
development teams are based in Xian (China) and Rochester (Minessota).
On October 2nd 2009 SPSS was acquired by IBM. For the next year this means that
my employer is to be SPSS, an IBM company after that I will become an employee of
IBM. At this time my job remains unchanged, my team and I continue to develop new
and exciting features for future releases of our product set now named (IBM SPSS
Data Collection).
Achievements
- Set up the Flash Community Project working with a number of large and competing
Market Research companies defining and building a set of Flash components that integrate
with IBM SPSS Data Collection to produce rich survey output without the survey creator
having any web based skills.
- Introduced a new disconnected interviewing concept resulting in
the launch of Interview Player which is now used for field interviewing and Data
Entry.
- Defined content of Survey Research stream within the European
User Conference, selected and prepared external speakers, created a range of associated
events including Panels, pre-event surveys, post event discussions and Internal
Technical Presentations. Attended by nearly 100 Executives and Technical leads (30%
of the total event attendance).
- Strategist for seven releases of Dimensions taking it
from a new product to a mature market leader, managed the gentle decline of existing
heritage systems migrating customers to the new product range. Resulted in 400%
increase in annual Revenue.
- Wrote and presented a business plan requesting additional investment
in Dimensions R&D. Resulted in Board level agreement to a significant increased R&D for three next years.
- Helped transition existing
R&D (Uk, Denmark) to a new R&D team based in Xian. Resulted in significant reduction of development costs.
- Lead the design and implementation of two new products within
the Dimensions suite. These brought new interface design concepts to the product now being spread throughout the rest of the suite and helped replace a number of heritage products no longer under development.
